Climate Justice between Padua and the Amazon: territorial laboratories, critical mapping and just transitions

As part of the Festival of Sustainable Development 2025, we are pleased to announce a new webinar in collaboration with the research group Climate Change, Territories, Diversity of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering of Padova’s University.

The event will feature contributions of the group’s research on critical reflections and territorial practices of climate justice in both the urban context of Padua and the Amazon region. Through the lens of critical mapping, just transitions, and community engagement, the webinar explores how local knowledge and academic research can foster more sustainable and equitable futures.

Topics will include the impact of land consumption and urban heat islands in Padua, the role of blue and green infrastructures, and agroecological practices. From the Amazon, the session will present projects such as the Atlas of Unburnable Carbon and studies on the socio-environmental effects of oil exploitation and palm oil monocultures. The event will also offer a critical outlook on the road to COP30 in Belém (Brazil), highlighting the challenges of a fair transition beyond fossil fuels.

The webinar will be held on Tuesday, May 20th | 17.00 – 19.00 (GMT+2)

Introduced by: Prof. Massimo De Marchi, Coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus Program CCD-STeDe

The event will be online via Zoom and will be conducted in English, with simultaneous translation into Italian.
