Lectio Magistralis “Keep Oil Underground : toward a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT)”

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master on Climate Change and Diversity: Sustainable Territorial Development (CCD–STeDe) is delighted to inform you and extend an invitation to the “Lectio Magistralis” of the course “Climate Change and Adaptation in Ecosystems and Societies,” part of the Bachelor of Engineering for Environment and Territory program.
This event will be held online on March 04th from 08.30 to 10.15.
We are honored to announce the presence of Prof. Carlos Larrea, Director of the Área Ambiente y Sustentabilidad, Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Ecuador and member of the FFNPT (Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty) Steering Committee

In his speech, Prof. Larrea will explore potential future pathways for keeping fossil fuels underground and facilitating a fair and just transition. He will highlight various exemplary experiences that he personally follows. Specifically, the victory of the popular referendum achieved in Ecuador last August, initiated by civil society organizations, along with academics and indigenous movements, marked the end of fossil fuel extraction in the ITT block (Ishipingo, Tambococha, and Tiputini). Additionally, he will delve into the 2019 initiative for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, a binding proposal for an immediate phase-out of fossil fuels based on the principles of climate and social justice, and the safeguarding of human rights.
